I use myfitnesspal.com (tabfjo -- add me!) to track my caloric intake and when I get bored I scroll through the message boards and throw my two cents in.
Sometimes I look at the questions submitted by other members and think, "Is this for real?!"
Example Thread 1: (This is a severely condensed summary)
Question: "I drink Diet Coke every day. Why am I not losing weight"
Responder 1: "I drink diet coke every day and I've lost 10 lbs."
Responder 2: "Diet drinks have 0 calories so that can't be it."
Me : Initial thoughts - If you drink diet soda every day, guarantee your food diet is poor. "Not sure diet soda is the culprit but try removing it from your diet all together. It has no health benefits! Look into cleaner eating. Most trainers and nutritionists will tell you becoming fit is 20% exercise and 80% diet."
Example Thread 2:
Question: "I do cardio all the time but I'm not losing weight, why not?"
Responder 1: "Add strength training to your routine"
Responder 2: "Wrong, everyone already has muscle."
Responder 3: "Don't weigh yourself as much."
Me: "Adding strength training will help. Plenty of research out on it. Without strength training you'll become 'skinny fat'"
Responder 4: "Isn't skinny fat when you're under weight and your body burns your stomach's muscle mass."
.........Really?!?!
I know everyone has to start somewhere but put in some research before you start offering people advice!
